The National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) has issued clarifications regarding the taxation of self-consumption by the population, emphasizing that it does not consider such a measure. The president of ANAF, Adrian Nica, explained that his previous statements, which sparked controversy, referred to methodological aspects related to the VAT tax gap, not to the taxation of self-consumption.

He specified that self-consumption refers to products made by households for their own consumption. ANAF collaborates with various institutions to improve the methodology for calculating the VAT gap, considering that self-consumption elements can distort estimates. Nica assured that the institution will focus on real issues, such as tax evasion, and that self-consumption will not be subject to tax inspections.
