Amazon.com has announced an investment of up to 50 billion dollars to expand artificial intelligence and supercomputing capabilities for Amazon Web Services (AWS) government clients. The project, one of the largest cloud infrastructure commitments for the public sector, will begin in 2026 and will add approximately 1.3 gigawatts of AI capacity in the AWS Top Secret, AWS Secret, and AWS GovCloud regions. AWS currently serves over 11,000 U.S. government agencies. Matt Garman, the CEO of AWS, emphasized that this investment will remove technological barriers for government institutions. Federal agencies will have access to advanced AI services, such as SageMaker and Bedrock, to develop tailored solutions and reduce costs. This initiative comes in a context where the U.S. and other countries, such as China, are intensifying efforts in emerging technologies.
