Talks about a tax on bank transactions have been confirmed by Nicușor Dan's adviser, Dragos Anastasiu, as part of the Cotroceni negotiations. Eugen Rădulescu of the BNR has vehemently criticized the idea as an absurd measure that could lead Romania down the path of Venezuela. The proposal would target bank customers, imposing a 1 leu fee per transaction, but there is no agreement on the issue. The government faces major budget problems and needs fiscal measures to reduce the deficit.
