Zalando, the German online retail giant, has announced the closure of its logistics center in Erfurt, which will lead to the loss of jobs for approximately 2700 employees. This decision, which will take effect at the end of September, is the result of the reorganization of the company's European logistics network, following the acquisition of the fashion retailer About You. The Erfurt center, opened in 2012, is the only large facility in eastern Germany.
Zalando has begun negotiations with the works council to establish a mutual agreement and a social plan, which will provide employees with the best prospects for the future. After the restructuring, Zalando will maintain 14 logistics centers in seven countries, continuing to be a leader in online fashion retail in Europe.
