The police in Carinthia, Austria, issued a warning regarding a series of scams carried out on August 12, 2026, in the districts of Feldkirchen and Klagenfurt. The scammers, who present themselves as police officers, use the 'Romanian thieves' method to convince victims to give them valuable goods and money.
They claim that a gang of Romanian thieves is operating in the area and ask for information about people's savings, promising that they will collect them to prevent thefts. Although most residents recognized the scam and alerted the authorities, an 87-year-old man from Feldkirchen was deceived.
After being contacted by phone, he was visited by a scammer who managed to steal several thousand euros from him. The police urge citizens to be vigilant and not to provide personal information or goods to strangers.
