The British government has announced stricter rules for obtaining residence permits, requiring migrants to have a stable job, a clean criminal record, to know English at an advanced level, and not to benefit from social assistance. The period required to obtain permanent residence will be extended from five to ten years. These measures are part of a response to the increase in immigration and political pressure from the Reform UK party, which proposes the elimination of indefinite residence permits, thus affecting the Romanian community in Great Britain.
