Dragoș-Gabriel Geangalau, a 55-year-old Romanian truck driver, was sentenced to 27 months in prison in Great Britain after he attempted to illegally transport 10 migrants from Dover to France. On November 21 of last year, he was stopped while trying to cross the English Channel by ferry, with individuals from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal discovered in his trailer. They stated that they had paid between 1,000 and 1,500 pounds to reach France.
Although he initially claimed he was unaware of the presence of the migrants, Geangalau pleaded guilty to the charge of complicity in illegal immigration. In addition to the prison sentence, he will have to pay a surcharge of 228 pounds.
