Cristian Scutariu, a Romanian visiting Krakow, told Digi24 exclusively that only luck kept him from being in the Main Market Square when the shooting took place. He was a few hundred meters from the scene and had just decided to leave because of the cold when he heard the gunshots.

The witness said people began fleeing through the surrounding side streets, with some taking shelter in apartment-building entrances or shops. Cristian Scutariu immediately left the area and later saw approximately 20 ambulances speeding toward hospitals. He could not confirm whether all the injured had been taken away.

The Romanian said he initially thought the noises were coming from flares or firecrackers, similar to those used by football supporter groups. An important derby had taken place the previous evening, and the sounds resembled those made by fans. The situation became clear after the gunfire intensified and people began running and screaming.

Scutariu was in Poland to attend a football match and intended to visit the Main Market Square. After reaching a safe place, he realized that he could have been right in the area of the attack.
