The Provincial Court of Valladolid, Spain, has begun the trial of Fabián AT, a Romanian employer accused of extreme exploitation of foreign workers in Alaejos. Although the defendant did not appear, the prosecutor requested a two-year prison sentence for violating workers' rights. Workers of various nationalities reported that they were threatened not to leave their homes and lived in fear, paying high rents for housing provided by the employer.
The intervention of the Civil Guard took place after the workers demanded their outstanding wages, triggering an investigation. An Algerian testified, confirming that he worked without a contract and was subjected to strict control. The prosecutor emphasized the systematic exploitation of the victims, while the defense requested acquittal, citing a lack of clear evidence.
