Spanish authorities have detained members of a gang of Romanians accused of human trafficking. They exploited workers, paying them only 20 euros per week.

The Spanish authorities dismantled a modern slavery network, arresting two Romanians, a man and his son, accused of human trafficking. They recruited workers for garlic harvesting, promising salaries of 2,000 euros per month and decent conditions, but in reality, the victims were paid only 20 euros per week and lived in inhumane conditions, crammed into a warehouse.

The workers, including a person with disabilities, were physically and psychologically abused, being forced to work despite their health condition. Operation 'Debt', coordinated by UCRIF, began after two workers reported the abuses to the police.

The authorities discovered the withheld documents of the victims and found evidence of exploitation. The two arrested men were released on bail but are under judicial control, being accused of human trafficking for the purpose of labor exploitation.
