The German government led by Friedrich Merz has announced a revision of the law regarding heating homes, eliminating the requirement for new plants to use at least 65% renewable energy. This change, which could come into effect from July 1, gives homeowners more freedom in choosing heating systems.
However, many cities, such as Augsburg and Mannheim, continue to plan the phase-out of gas networks in the next two decades, in the context of rising costs and Germany's goal of becoming climate neutral by 2045.
The new law requires that gas and oil be mixed with cleaner fuels, and by 2029, at least 10% from renewable sources must be included. However, biogas is more expensive, and its availability is limited, which could lead to rising prices.
Local authorities are required to develop eco-friendly heating plans by 2026-2028, and Romanians in Germany, whether they are tenants or homeowners, need to pay attention to these decisions, as they will influence the future of their investments in heating systems.
