Criminal groups from Romania and Albania, targeted by British authorities for burglaries causing millions of pounds in damages.

Former Scotland Yard detective, David McKelvey, warns that security breaches at the borders of Great Britain facilitate access for organized crime gangs made up of Romanian and Albanian citizens. These groups operate quickly, committing burglaries in several counties and leaving the country before being detected.

Recent cases highlight the seriousness of the situation: two Romanians robbed homes in Essex, Cheshire, and North Yorkshire shortly after arrival, while a gang of Albanians is set to be convicted for thefts totaling over one million pounds. Although the total number of burglaries is decreasing, Romanians represent the largest group of foreign nationals convicted of theft, against a backdrop of an extremely low overall conviction rate. British authorities admit that limited resources hinder intervention, but they promise to continue efforts to combat crime.
