The former Spanish Minister of Transport, Jose Luis Abalos, was allegedly involved, in 2021, during the pandemic, in a corruption scandal in which two Romanian women who practiced prostitution were reportedly paid by a businessman to have sexual relations with him, in exchange for state contracts.
According to the publication El Español, the Romanian women received travel permits to travel from Valencia to Madrid, and Abalos' son was allegedly involved, booking them a hotel room. The meeting with the former official reportedly took place at his residence.
Three years later, Abalos was expelled from the Socialist Party due to this scandal, being reinstated in 2025. Following this incident, the Spanish socialists announced that they would expel anyone from the party who resorts to prostitution.
