A 41-year-old Romanian was arrested in Austria after committing at least 14 robberies against people over 80 years old, some of which were attempts. The Austrian police began tracking the man in May, noticing that he frequently traveled to Austria, looking for quiet areas with residences of elderly people.
The Romanian posed as a plumber, claiming he was sent by gas or heating companies to check meters or smoke detectors. Once inside the victims' homes, he would ask them to bring him a glass of water or would give them a form to fill out, during which he would search through cabinets and steal money and jewelry.
His plan was thwarted on July 22, when he was recognized by a police patrol and taken to the station for questioning. The man confessed to the crimes, and the judges decided to send him to prison.
