World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is celebrated annually on July 30, according to the A/RES/68/192 resolution adopted by the UN in 2013, aimed at raising awareness of the situation of victims and promoting their rights.

Human trafficking is a serious crime that exploits women, children, and men for purposes such as forced labor and sexual exploitation. In 2006, the Government of Japan organized an international meeting to combat this issue, and in 2007, the Inter-Agency Coordination Group against Trafficking in Persons (ICAT) was established. In 2010, the UN adopted the Global Action Plan to Combat Trafficking in Persons, which includes measures to protect victims, especially women and children, through a voluntary trust fund.

The 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda included goals for the elimination of human trafficking and violence against women. UNODC supports states in implementing international protocols to prevent and combat this crime.

Additionally, an analysis by the National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons (ANITP) shows that in the first six months of 2026, there was a 32% increase in identified victims of human trafficking compared to 2025.
