The Venice Commission has assessed the revision of Romania's electoral legislation as belated and damaging to public confidence in elections. While the merger of local and European parliamentary elections may be justified, changes to the composition of electoral commissions just three months before the elections run counter to the principles of stability and legal certainty. The Commission recommended avoiding emergency ordinances in electoral legislation and regulating the merger of elections by law to ensure the transparency and stability of the electoral process. Reactions from Romanian politicians underline the discontent with the handling of these changes.
