Radu Miruță, the interim Minister of Defense, announced that USR submitted in November 2022 a bill that prohibits the closure of coal-based electricity production capacities without having alternative solutions. Miruță emphasized that this project is blocked in Parliament, despite the support expressed by the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Sorin Grindeanu.

"USR submitted, in November 2022, bill 121, which states in advance that there was enough time then not to close until you put something in exchange," said Radu Miruță.

Miruță requested that the project be put on the agenda of the Chamber of Deputies, mentioning that PSD voted against similar initiatives in the past.

The statements come after the President of PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, announced that the party's parliamentarians will submit a bill that will allow the closure of production capacities in the energy sector only under the conditions that new capacities exist to replace the energy produced by those being retired.
