Unit 2 of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant will be shut down for the next 48 hours, according to statements by Sorin Rândașu, director of emergency situations at Apele Române.

The threshold of -230 cm has been reached, which necessitates the shutdown of the unit. The flow of the Danube has reached 1370 m³/s, and the weather forecast indicates a lack of precipitation in the next five days, which will lead to a further decrease in water levels.

Christian Bușoi, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Energy, confirmed that Unit 2 will not operate in August, and dredging operations will continue to facilitate a possible restart.

Problems are widespread across Europe, with major difficulties in Romania and Hungary.

Dredging works are essential for the future operation of the plant, but they will not allow Unit 2 to remain operational during the month of August.
