The police in Sibiu rescued two adult female deer that were illegally kept in a pen on private property in Porumbacu de Sus. The rescue took place following searches conducted on July 6, as part of a criminal case concerning poaching. The deer were identified and seized by the police, and were subsequently transferred to the Sibiu Zoo, where they will receive specialized care.
Authorities continue investigations to determine the circumstances of the capture and retention of these animals. Poaching is a serious crime in Romania, and wild animals are afforded legal protection. The police and environmental authorities carry out actions to combat poaching and the illegal trafficking of animals, aiming to protect biodiversity and ecosystems. Animals discovered in illegal captivity can be confiscated and relocated to specialized centers for care.
