DIICOT prosecutors have detained two Bulgarian citizens, a businessman and an accomplice, for forming an organized criminal group and committing computer fraud. They are suspected of having cloned cards used by commercial companies to fuel trucks at gas stations in Romania. Between February 2-3, 2026, members of the group installed skimming devices on POS terminals at a gas station in Ploiești. After cloning the cards, they fueled trucks in the counties of Ilfov, Giurgiu, and Constanța. On March 1, one of the suspects was caught in the act while dismantling a device that copied data from the cards. Prosecutors found skimming equipment with them and estimated the damage at approximately 30,000 lei. The two Bulgarians are to be presented to the Prahova Tribunal for preventive arrest.
