The incident took place on Friday, near the island of Lampedusa, and the rescue operation was coordinated by the Italian Coast Guard, which managed to save 11 migrants, including four unaccompanied children. The lifeless body of a pregnant woman was recovered, and the survivors were brought to Lampedusa. The vessel remained at sea for two days before capsizing.

According to UNICEF, over 32,700 migrants have died trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea since 2014, and Flavio Di Giacomo, spokesperson for the International Organization for Migration, mentioned that by 2025 at least 916 migrants have already died in this area.
