The tragic accident in Timiș occurred when a minibus, carrying PAOK supporters, collided with a tanker and a truck. Initially, the toll was six dead.
The minibus, which had left Greece and had 10 passengers, was overloaded, having a capacity of 8 people.
The seven dead were on their way to Lyon, where the team coached by Răzvan Lucescu was to play in the Europa League. Following the collision, three other supporters were injured. The police stated that the minibus driver attempted a dangerous overtaking on DN 6, which led to the accident.
