Timișoara has been designated this evening as the Destination of the Year 2026 in Romania

Timișoara has won the title of 'Destination of the Year 2026 in Romania' at the gala organized on May 14 by the Association Institute for Visionary Cities. The city also secured first place in the category 'Cities that Inspire' and second place in 'Best Promotion'.

The decision was made through public voting and a panel of experts. Mayor Dominic Fritz stated that these awards reflect the positive evolution of the city, emphasizing that Timișoara has become an increasingly attractive destination for tourists, not only for business but also for leisure. He also mentioned that tourism in Timișoara grew by 5% in 2025, in contrast to a 2% decrease at the national level.
