The STB has announced the definitive withdrawal of the Tatra trams, which have transported Bucharest residents for 53 years, becoming a symbol of Czechoslovak engineering.

The last rides will take place this weekend and next weekend, before the vehicles are replaced by the new Imperio trams. The Tatra trams were also used in other cities in Romania, but those in Bucharest benefited from superior maintenance.

Octav Vasilescu, a journalist at Euronews Romania, emphasizes the importance of this model, which was adapted to cope with narrow streets and conditions in cities like Prague. The last day of operation for the Tatra trams will be on July 19, after which some will become collector's items in the STB heritage, while the rest will be put up for sale. The nostalgic memories of passengers highlight the impact of these trams on the daily life of Bucharest residents.
