The energy storage batteries in Romania delivered nearly 700 MW on Thursday evening, equivalent to the power of a nuclear reactor in Cernavodă, according to Transelectrica data, in the context where yesterday the second reactor of the nuclear power plant was shut down in a controlled manner due to the low level of the Danube.

At 9:00 PM, the active storage capacities were 693 MW, representing 14.25% of the total energy production. These batteries accumulated energy throughout the day and discharged it into the energy system during peak consumption times. Romania currently has storage batteries with a total power of 989 MW and a total storage capacity of 1,974 MWh. The largest batteries include a unit of 201 MW in Florești, followed by one of 150 MW in Gura Ialomiței.

Energy consumption has decreased compared to last week, reaching a peak of 6,480 MW, while Romania imported 2,080 MW.

The Ministry of Energy assured that there are sufficient internal capacities to compensate for the lack of nuclear energy after the reactor was shut down due to the low flow of the Danube.
