The National Meteorological Administration has issued a notice regarding the accelerated melting of snow in the Făgăraș and Bucegi mountains, at altitudes of over 2,000 meters, during the period of June 1-4.
Positive temperatures and abundant rain contribute to the moistening of the snow layer, which presents the phenomenon of isothermy. Meteorologists warn that, especially at altitudes over 2,200 meters, the moist snow can slide, generating melt flows or avalanches.
In the previous period, the weather was unstable, with showers and electrical discharges, and the snow layer has significantly decreased, reaching 90 cm on the Omu Peak.
In the coming days, atmospheric instability is expected, with rain showers and wind intensifications, and maximum temperatures will vary between 6 and 11 degrees. Meteorologists recommend caution in mountainous areas.
