The National Institute for Earth Physics (INFP) has implemented a seismic alert system capable of transmitting warnings approximately 25 seconds before seismic waves reach Bucharest.

This interval allows for the shutdown of critical infrastructures, such as gas networks, and protects personnel in industrial processes. The system, operational since 2013, helps reduce the impact of earthquakes on the population by estimating the number of affected buildings and directing intervention teams. Although earthquakes cannot be predicted, INFP's research aims to mitigate their effects. Public awareness is essential, and the institute conducts educational activities to familiarize the population with behavior in the event of an earthquake.
