The Sector 1 City Hall has decided to impose penalties of 1.6 million lei per day on the sanitation operator Romprest, accusing it of not adhering to the snow removal schedule following the recent snowfall. The institution emphasized that, after three days, 20% of the secondary streets had not been cleared, and the interventions on the other streets were non-compliant. Romprest used only 14 out of the 39 vehicles it had committed to, and inspections showed that the main streets had not been completely cleared. Additionally, the General Directorate of Local Police imposed a fine of 60,000 lei for the identified deficiencies. Romprest contests the legality of the City Hall's decision, claiming that it could generate a financial risk of 1.12 billion lei and that it has a valid contract until 2033. The conflict between the City Hall and Romprest has been ongoing for six years, resulting in 140 lawsuits won by the operator. The City Hall recently paid 2.5 million euros for preparing the equipment for snow removal, and Mayor George Tuță has been authorized to announce the expiration of the contract in 2026, a decision contested by Romprest.
