The Russian rhythmic gymnastics team has decided to withdraw from the World Cup stage in Cluj-Napoca, citing a violation of the regulations by the organizers. Mayor Emil Boc announced that the anthem and flag of Russia will not be used in the competition, which is why the Russian Federation considered that the competition rules are seriously violated. Although the International Gymnastics Federation has lifted restrictions for Russian and Belarusian athletes, the authorities in Cluj-Napoca informed the Russian team that national symbols will not be allowed.

Emil Boc emphasized that he accepted to host the competition in the context of international sanctions, wanting to express disagreement with the political symbols of Russia. The Russian Olympic Committee reacted, considering the mayor's statement a violation of the principle of neutrality in sports and informed the International Olympic Committee about the incident.
