Radu Miruță, the interim Minister of Defense, stated that the level of the Danube has risen by 4 centimeters in the last 24 hours, thus ensuring the necessary energy for Unit 2 of the nuclear power plant in Cernavodă for at least 9 days.
This increase was observed after the sinking of four barges in the Danube, a measure intended to maintain the water level necessary for the operation of the plant.
Miruță thanked all those involved in the operation, including the Prime Minister and ANAR, emphasizing the importance of quick solutions in the face of problems.
The plant director, Romeo Urjan, confirmed that Unit 2 is operating within normal parameters, and the increase in water level at the suction of the cooling basin pumps is a direct result of the sinking of the barges.
The operation was complex due to strong currents, but it was successfully completed, ensuring the continuity of the plant's operation.
