The public television in Hungary has resumed broadcasting news bulletins, ending a two-month suspension imposed by the new government.

The public television in Hungary broadcast its first news bulletin on Thursday since July, marking the end of a suspension imposed by the government of Peter Magyar, who promised to restore media independence.

Press control was a central aspect of the previous government led by Viktor Orban, which transformed Hungary into an "illiberal democracy" during its 16 years in power. Magyar, a pro-European conservative, included the reform of public media among his campaign promises. M1, the main public channel, suspended news programs on July 7, and Thursday's bulletin included balanced coverage, featuring voices from the opposition, a first during the Orban era.

Although some employees were laid off, most of the staff remained, and some journalists who previously produced propaganda are still in their positions.
