The Parliament has adopted a bill that increases the maximum value of meal vouchers from 40.18 lei to 45 lei, with retroactive applicability for the rights related to November 2025. This increase comes in a context where the Bolojan government has refused to raise the minimum wage, generating discussions about compensations for employees. Meal vouchers, which are not taxable and do not involve social contributions, offer tax advantages to employers and represent an important benefit for employees, especially in counties with lower wages. Experts believe that this increase can be seen as compensation for employees who have to work for the same income under austerity conditions. Meal vouchers are individual food allowances, usable exclusively for purchasing food products. Law no. 201/2025 establishes a maximum threshold, but employers are not obliged to grant the voucher at this value. Additionally, the vouchers have a limited validity, and employees must be informed about the usage rules to avoid losing the benefit.
