Convicted sexual offenders registered in the national register of individuals who have committed sexual offenses or exploited individuals will no longer be able to work in schools, hospitals, care centers, or physical education and sports centers, whether public or private, according to a project adopted on Wednesday by the Chamber of Deputies, in its capacity as the decision-making body. The law, which aims to provide increased protection for minors, is set for promulgation.
Additionally, the register will now include information about the workplace of offenders, a measure intended to improve their monitoring.
Convicted individuals for sexual offenses are required to inform the police about any new employment contract, which allows for closer supervision of their activities.
USR Senator, Ștefan Pălărie, emphasized that although the law represents a step forward, stricter controls for offenders already employed in these institutions would have been beneficial. The database was created in 2019, and the new regulations come in the context of over 65,000 offenders being officially monitored.
