The Ministry of Energy has declared that the National Electric Power System remains stable after the controlled shutdown of Unit 2 at Cernavodă, caused by the low level of the Danube.

Estimates show that there are no risks for electricity supply, and the consumption needs are covered by a mix of resources, including hydro production, wind energy, and imports. The maximum estimated consumption for Thursday is approximately 6,900 MW, and Romania has additional production reserves from natural gas and coal.

The ministry has notified the European Commission about the shutdown of the units and discussed the increase in import needs. Romanian authorities are collaborating with large industrial consumers to reduce consumption during peak hours, and the withdrawal of coal capacities until August 31 could create additional risks for the security of the energy system.
