The mayor of Iași, Mihai Chirica, announced the intention to propose in the Local Council the prohibition of gambling halls, arguing that they represent a harmful phenomenon for society and do not contribute to reducing the budget deficit. The decision to ban these activities was made possible by a government ordinance that allows mayors to decide on the management of gambling in their localities. Chirica emphasized that he will not allow the emergence of areas where gambling will be permitted, seeking a total ban.

Other mayors from different cities, such as Slatina and Ploiești, have announced similar initiatives, highlighting the negative impact of gambling on the community. De Mezzo, the mayor of Slatina, promised that his city will be free of slot machines, arguing that the lives destroyed by these games are more valuable than the taxes generated by them. A study conducted by Save the Children shows that a significant percentage of children have been exposed to gambling, underscoring the need for strict regulatory measures.
