The Employees' Union of the Government's Working Apparatus (SAALG) harshly criticized the budget proposal put forward by the government led by Ilie-Gavril Bolojan, considering it an "exercise in accounting optimism." The unionists emphasize that the budget must be a responsible tool, but that the macroeconomic foundation of the project is questionable, relying on a real economic growth of only 1% and budget revenues of 736.5 billion lei. They warn that the measures for fiscal consolidation will affect private consumption, while the government bets on investments and exports as sources of growth, which they consider impossible in the current context of the Romanian economy.
The criticisms also extend to the way the budgetary burden is distributed, with fiscal adjustments disproportionately affecting the population, while tax incentives are not reassessed. Salaries, pensions, and allowances remain stagnant, while the real incomes of Romanians are declining. SAALG warns that the budget project risks becoming a symbol of social austerity, built on fragile assumptions and on the sacrifice of the population, which is facing a growing public debt and high expenses for interest.
