The National Environmental Guard (GNM) has expanded control actions in the northern area of the Capital, following the increase in atmospheric pollution levels caused by the anti-skid material used in the winter season. GNM commissioners found that suspended particles (PM10 and PM2.5) have significantly increased, being stirred into the air due to heavy traffic and the lack of precipitation. The control actions aim to identify pollution sources and verify compliance with wetting programs and measures to prevent dust emissions.

The Guard has requested sector municipalities to intervene to remove the anti-skid material from the roadway through vacuuming and washing. In 2025, GNM imposed fines of 13.466 million lei and inspected 346 construction sites, highlighting recurring deficiencies in pollution management. Factors contributing to frequent exceedances of PM10 and PM2.5 values include road traffic, industrial activities, and construction sites.
