The College of Pharmacists in Romania and the associations of community pharmacies signal an alarming decrease in young people's interest in the pharmacy profession, accompanied by a growing deficit of specialists in the labor market.

Statistics show a decrease of 1,478 pharmacists between 2022 and 2025, while the number of pharmacies has increased. This situation threatens the capacity of the healthcare system to provide the necessary human resources in pharmacies, hospitals, and industry. Causes include insufficient integration of pharmacists into health policies, lack of recognition of modern pharmaceutical services, and economic pressure on pharmacies.

The College and associations are calling for measures such as re-evaluating the role of the pharmacist, implementing pharmaceutical services, and aligning educational policies with the necessary human resources. Dialogue with authorities is essential to ensure the future of the profession and improve the public healthcare system.
