The Competition Council has launched an investigation into ECO SUD SA, the administrator of the Ecological Deposit of Urban and Similar Industrial Solid Waste in Vidra, Ilfov, suspecting an abuse of dominant position. The competition authority has identified indications that ECO SUD SA may have imposed abusive clauses on operators providing mechanical-biological treatment services for municipal waste starting in 2024.

The investigation was initiated following a complaint and included unannounced inspections at the headquarters in Bucharest and at the work site in Ilfov, authorized by the Bucharest Court of Appeal. These inspections are intended to obtain the necessary information to clarify possible anti-competitive practices, without implying a prior judgment on guilt. Competition law prohibits the abusive use of a dominant position, and ECO SUD SA is owned by Elena Sontelecan (65%) and Cristina Cantemir (35%).
