The Competition Council, led by Bogdan Chirițoiu, will finalize the investigation regarding the calculation method of the ROBOR index, initiated due to suspicions of information exchanges between the participating banks. ROBOR is the reference rate for the interbank monetary market in Romania, established by 10 credit institutions selected by the National Bank of Romania.

Chirițoiu mentioned that the investigation report is complete and currently under internal verification, and will also be analyzed by the European Commission. The competition authority aims to finalize the investigation in the first half of the year, considering the significant impact on the banking system and possible fines proportional to the turnover of the involved banks. Additionally, the Competition Council is working on other important cases, including in the fields of agriculture and the food market.
