In Germany, authorities have launched an investigation against the Cîrpaci family, accused of serious crimes, including human trafficking for the purpose of organ harvesting. The two family members, Gradu and Ileana Cîrpaci, are suspected of having kept a man in slavery, forcing him to donate a kidney to Gradu, who was suffering from kidney disease.
The man was isolated from his family in Romania, his documents were taken, and he was threatened with death to his parents if he did not agree to donate the organ. The operation took place in a hospital in Germany, where the donor stated that he is related to Gradu Cîrpaci, but authorities began investigations after they had suspicions. Currently, the two have not been found and are being prosecuted for human trafficking, bodily harm, coercion, and threats.
