The ceremonial pistol received by the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, from the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, at the NATO Summit in Ankara, will not remain in his personal possession. The weapon, a Gumușay pistol, will be kept by the Protection and Guard Service (SPP) after going through the legal procedures.
The Presidential Administration confirmed that the pistol was taken by Nicușor Dan's protection team for checks and was registered according to the rules for managing gifts received by the head of state.
The gift is part of a similar series offered to all leaders participating in the summit, but it raised legal issues for some officials due to national legislation. Although the pistols have a ceremonial character, they cannot be kept as personal property. The NATO Summit addressed important topics such as European security and support for Ukraine.
