The Buzău Babic, a traditional raw-dried sausage, has obtained European certification Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), marking an important achievement for the local community. Ana-Maria Mircea-Leu, the president of the Association for the Promotion of Buzău Babic, emphasized that this recognition reflects the community's efforts to preserve tradition and promote the gastronomic identity of the region. Babic is made from pork and beef, seasoned and smoked, having a characteristic spicy taste.
The tradition of this product dates back to around 1900 and has been passed down from generation to generation. Additionally, Buzău Babic has been included in the ranking of the most appreciated sausages in the world by TasteAtlas and has received a gold star from the International Taste Institute. This certification joins 16 other Romanian products with European protection, as the Ministry of Agriculture continues to promote Romania's gastronomic identity.
