The Bucharest Tribunal has ruled that the Bucharest City Hall must pay compensation of 2,000 euros to a Bucharest resident who was bitten by a rat in 2021. The court noted that the authorities have a responsibility in managing pest control services and in preventing such incidents.

The incident occurred in the context of a state of alert declared by local authorities due to the accumulation of uncollected waste by Romprest, which led to the formation of garbage piles on the streets and favored the proliferation of rats.

The plaintiff's lawyer emphasized that the City Hall did not fulfill its legal obligations regarding sanitation and pest control. According to him, the negligence created a risk to public health, as evidenced in the plaintiff's case, supported by witnesses and medical evidence.
