The amphibious assault ship 'Castilla', belonging to the Spanish Navy, is heading to Romania with a contingent of over 200 soldiers from the Spanish Marine infantry, who will participate in a new mission on NATO's eastern flank.
On board the ship are Vamtac and Pirana IIIC vehicles, as well as logistical equipment intended for deployment on Romanian territory. The mechanized tactical subgroup sent by the Spanish Fleet's Marine Infantry Brigade will be integrated into a multinational brigade led by France. Planned activities include own exercises, exercises organized by the multinational brigade, and activities in cooperation with the Romanian armed forces. The contingent will have Pirana IIIC combat vehicles, heavy machine guns mounted on Vamtac ST5 vehicles, Spike anti-tank missiles, remotely piloted aerial systems, and explosive ordnance disposal teams, thus ensuring a complex operational capability.
