Constantin Truș, chief physician of general surgery at Galați County Hospital, shared on Facebook about an experience with a patient who, after a surgical intervention for a perianal abscess, questioned the duration of the surgery. The patient, who had read information from an AI chatbot, expected the surgery to last an hour, and after learning that it only took 20 minutes, he became dissatisfied, asking whether the doctor had left an infection behind.
Truș explained that the intervention was quick and efficient, but the generalized infection in the patient's body required antibiotic treatment and drainage, which is why a mesh was installed. The surgeon emphasized that the duration of the surgery can vary depending on the complexity of the case and that, in this case, the abscess was well-defined. Although he tried to clarify the situation, the patient remained dissatisfied, highlighting the challenges of communication between doctors and patients in the digital information age.
