The Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) announced on Wednesday that it collaborated with the international intelligence community to stop cyberattacks attributed to the GRU, the Russian military intelligence service. These attacks were disrupted through Operation Masquerade, which targeted an attack infrastructure used by the cyber group APT28/FANCY BEAR.
SRI specified that the attackers compromised sensitive data, including passwords and government information, affecting global entities, including those from Romania. President Nicușor Dan emphasized that Russia continues its hybrid war against Western countries and highlighted the need to improve cybersecurity in Romania. SRI recommended that SOHO equipment users adopt protective measures, such as updating firmware and reviewing firewall rules. International collaboration is essential to counter cyber threats.
