On March 11, 2026, the Braila County Police Inspectorate coordinated an operation against a couple, a 38-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, suspected of circulating counterfeit banknotes. Between January 13 and 17, 2026, the two allegedly used 4,000 euros in counterfeit 200-euro banknotes to purchase mobile phones from Galati and Ianca.

Investigators established that they contacted sellers of new phones on an online platform, purchasing three devices which they later pawned. Following the evidence, the Galați BCCO police detained them for 24 hours, and the two will be presented to the court on March 12 with a proposal for preventive measures.
