The manager of the Piatra-Neamț County Emergency Hospital (SJU), Alexandru Pătrașcu, stated on Friday that the situation regarding nosocomial infections in the unit is "more serious than you think," but "there are no patients who have died as a direct result." This comes as Digi24 reports that four patients have died.

Digi24 reports that the outbreak has been evolving since January.

"In total, 16 patients have been infected, of which four have died. The deceased were aged between 61 and 84 years, and had serious illnesses," writes Digi24.

Conf. Dr. Alexandru Pătrașcu denied the information that appeared online about deaths caused by nosocomial infections, stating that there are no confirmed such cases.

"There are no patients who have died as a direct result of a confirmed nosocomial infection within the hospital," he stated, according to Agerpres.

Pătrașcu accuses, however, the monitoring activity that was outsourced to a private company, belonging to an employee of the Public Health Directorate (DSP), which raised serious suspicions regarding the accuracy of the reports.

"The company of an epidemiologist from the Public Health Directorate (DSP) Neamț was monitoring the medical unit regarding nosocomial infections, and the reports were not made 'correctly', claiming 'better' than the actual situation," says the manager.

Pătrașcu emphasized that the nosocomial infections in the hospital are more serious than previously thought, and after the termination of the contract with the private company, there have been complaints from those affected. The leadership of DSP Neamț did not respond to the request for comment on these statements.
