A serious case of fraud in the national animal traceability system has been discovered in Cluj County, according to ANSVSA. 75 sheep, which were registered as having been slaughtered in an outbreak of disease in Tulcea County, were found alive on a farm in Cluj. This situation endangers food safety and Romania's efforts to combat the Small Ruminant Plague.

The president of ANSVSA, Alexandru Nicolae Bociu, emphasized the seriousness of the fraud, mentioning that the electronic registration of animal killings, followed by receiving compensation, but keeping them alive, represents a clear attempt at fraud. ANSVSA will impose severe penalties, will revoke operating rights in the system, and will notify the criminal prosecution authorities for forgery and hindering disease control, emphasizing that such practices cannot continue.
